I told the true story of meeting a local GMO papaya farmer during the Hawai'i Island GMO ban and the conversation that ensued. He expressed he would rather not use GMO or spray herbicide/pesticides and would like other options but he didn't feel there were any. I shared with him that organic dried Moringa (Kalamungai) leaf can sell locally at retail for up $60/ lbs. He laughed and said it didn't need fertilizer and just needs a branch stuck in the ground to grow. Wow, here is an easy to grow, highly nutritious and vital food for mothers and children that doesn't need Genetic engineering, sprays or lots of fertilizers. There are many options, biotech can't sell the true solutions, because it is local knowledge and uncontaminated/doctored plant genetics.
How many times can things disappear from our websites, facebook accounts that question the sacred domination of life, biotechnology, before one speculates how deep the major corporations and the government are collaborating to suppress the truth. I suppose I have committed a sin in this modern American empire which is suggesting there is common ground, that we don't need to fight and argue, that together we can find the solutions that meet our needs, and the needs of the planet.
I'm not alone. Nomi Carmona of Babes Against Biotech has told me her website and computer faced frequent changes during the push for the Hawai'i Island GMO ban. But guess what? We won! Even if the feds deny it, the people have spoken. The truth is out, and truth...spreads like wildfire. Every time they try to stifle the truth by dumping hundreds of millions on misleading and false tv ads, or paying GMO hack trolls, or paying off "experts' to be PR sellouts, threatening lawsuits, and other dirty tricks, the flames of resentment towards biotech grow exponentially.
Now, wherever biotech shows it's face, it is on the defense. We are winning. It only takes 12-18% of a population to reach tipping point. After many travels and talking with lots of people from all walks of life, I think it is safe to say we are well beyond that number on GMO's, it's just that people don't realize it yet and the government is still drunk on giving handouts to biotech to secure future non government work. When the people lead, the leaders will follow.
